DEFINITION

A disease in which the body’s ability to produce orrespond to the hormone insulin is impaired resulting in abnormal metabolism ofcarbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood.

CAUSES

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes occurs when your immune system, thebody’s system for fighting infection attacks and destroys the insulin producingbeta cells of the pancreas.

Type 2 Diabetes

The most common form of diabetes is caused byseveral factors, including lifestyle factors and genes.

1.Overweight,obesity and Physicval inactivity

You are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if you are not physicallyactive and are overweight or obese. Extra weight sometimes causes insulin resistance and is common in peoplewith type 2 diabetes.

Extra belly fat is linked to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes andheart and blood vessel disease.

2.Insulinresistance

Type 2 diabetes usually begins with insulin resistance, a condition inwhich muscle, liver and fat cells do not use insulin well. As a result yourbody needs more insulin to help glucose enter cells. At first, the pancreasmake more insulin to keep up with the added demand. Over time, the pancreascan’t make enough insulin and blood glucose level rise.

3.Genes& Family History

As in type 1 diabetes, certain genes may make you more likely developtype 2 diabetes. The disease tends to run in families.

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY

All the cells in human body for energy requireglucose and requires insulio hormone for glucose utilization. Any disorder inthis metabolic process or disease of the pancreas will complications and alsolead to another dangerous diseases.
