Sinusitis

 

Chronic sinusitis can be brought on by aninfection, by growth in the sinuses (nasal polyps) or swelling of the lining ofyour sinuses. Also called chronic rhinosinusitis, the condition can affect bothadults and children.

These infection can be viral, bacterial or fungal.

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY

The bones around the nose, the eyes and the cheeks are lined withmembranes that produce mucus, which function to warm and moisten inhaled air,plus to filter out any germs, when congested and unable to drain properly.  The mucus continues to accumulate. Stagnateand become infected.
