Acne

Acne is aninflammatory disease of the skin with the formation of an eruption of papulesor pustules.. Acne (also called as pimples) though is not a very serioushealth  condition it has got a lot ofimportance  due to its cosmetic naturenot only in teenagers but also in adults.

Acne is askin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil anddead skin cells. It Often causes white heads , Blackheads, or pimples, andusually  appears on the face , Forehead,Chest, Upper back and shoulders.

Pathophysiology :

          There are several stages of severity in acne& they being : Acne Vulgaris, Acne Rosacea, Acne conglobata & acneFluminans. These are mentioned in chronological order depending on theincreasing nature of severity.

Commonoccurring form of acne in Acne Vulgaris, in what we see usually in the form ofpimples. Acne is multi factorial inflammatory disease affectingpilosebaceous  follicles. The initialevent in the development of an acne lesion is abnormal desquamation of thekeratiocytes that line the sebaceous follicle, which creates a micro plug  & micro comedo.

Anincrease in circulating androgens  atonset of puberty stimulates the production of sebum into the pilosebaceousunits.
